Grandpa was invited to paint "CleanR" the most modern sorted waste collection site in Riga, located at Vietalvas Street 5b. The mural spans roughly 550 square meters and complements the recently opened state-of-the-art facility. Grandpa on the concept: “Now the waste collection site is decorated with an artwork featuring a Kiwie-style interpretation of a well-known Latvian insect-eating plant - the sundew. In this case, however, the flower symbolically ‘eats’ trash.”
“We have seen and shown that art can be created from various kinds of waste. This time, in collaboration with Latvian street artist Kiwie, we want to highlight that responsibility and care for our environment is also a form of art. We are all part of this process and each of us has a role to play. At the same time, we want to show that sorted waste collection sites can be organized, aesthetic, and modern environments. Perhaps at first it doesn’t seem like a place where art appreciation could be combined with waste sorting and encouraging young people to participate more actively - but we want to prove the opposite,” said Liene Rumpane, Head of the Household Waste Management Department at CleanR. It has already been reported that on March 26 this year, as part of the European Union’s LIFE project, CleanR opened Latvia’s most modern sorted waste collection site. It is also the first such extensively equipped and automated facility in Riga. You can watch how this artwork was created on Grandpa’s IG account.
